Shadowsprite & Lightfoot is the first book of a new Christian fantasy series by C.S. Wachter. I was blessed to receive an Advanced Reader Copy, and this is my honest review of the book.
Shadowsprite & Lightfoot is a fantasy story. C S Wachter paints pictures of the scenes and characters with clear, brief details. The story begins with three main characters: Keagan, a shadowshifter who has a knack for trouble and who struggles to try to please his father; Bran, an aelf who is Keagan’s best friend and traveling companion. Bran believes in Elohim and does his best to encourage Keagan to stay out of trouble; and Willow, a diminutive dragon with a strong personality and a big attitude who often travels on Bran’s shoulder. I became invested in these characters right from the start, and Willow endeared herself to me to the point that made me wish miniature dragons were real. I’d love to have one.
This story has lots of tension and suspense and had me on the edge of my seat several times. There are other characters who quickly become integral to the quest that the three main characters are face. The many struggles and battles keep the reader turning pages and cheering the characters on. Though fantasy books tend to be lengthier than other genres, C S Wachter’s ability to engage the reader in both her characters and the story, in addition to creating a storyline with many twists and turns, makes the book an easy read.
C S Wachter has a talent for creating lots of fascinating fantastical characters, both good and evil, as well as characters from the human realm.
I have read C S Wachter’s other books, but I’d have to say Shadowsprite & Lightfoot is my favorite and I look forward to following these characters in the next book of the Terra Nafala series.
