Top Ten Tuesday

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday theme, as per The Broke and the Bookish, is “Ten Characters We’d Name Our Children or Pets After”. Since, I won’t be having any more children, mine would be pets, most likely dogs.

  1. Atticus after Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
  2. Diggory from The Magician’s Nephew by C. S. Lewis
  3. Tumnus from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis; one of my favorite minor characters.
  4. Ky. This character is a very complex character in a book I am currently reading: Unblemished by Sara Ella, and he is fast becoming one of my favorites. His full name is Kyaphus, but most people call him Ky.
  5. Sam after Sam Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy because he is the ultimate faithful friend.
  6. Einstein after the best dog character EVER, Einstein from The Watchers by Dean Koontz.
  7. Cooper from Long Way Gone by Charles Martin.
  8. Rand from The Journey of the Heart Series by Colleen Coble.
  9. Cade from Breaker’s Reef by Terri Blackstock
  10. Jake from Fire and Water by Betsy Graziani Fasbinder

Who’s on your list?

    • Interesting! However these are supposed to be character names that you would name your child or a pet after, not a book character, and for me, Scout is too common in the dog name world. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and sharing!

      • Oh ha! How did I misread that? Well, I did try to convince my husband of Scout and Atticus for our children but was shot down. I guess Samwise would be perfect for a dog, since he’s the faithful friend. 😉

    • I think so too. I did consider putting Scout, and even Jem, on my list, and I still may consider Jem for a pet name some time, but I like the unusual, and don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with the name Scout for a dog, but I’ve heard it in my area a lot, so for me, it’s too common.

  1. Kelly, Finally a list I can contribute to. Since it doesn’t say literary characters I’ll bend the rule a little and include TV characters but my list includes REAL pets
    1. Paddlefoot, beloved dachshund named for another dachshund on the children’s TV serial “Clutch Cargo” (DVD available )

2 Kookie, a good dog named for the comb toting parking lot valet on “77 Sunset Strip”

3.Lilith, a name with Biblical roots, but alas this cat was named for the mate of Frazier Crane on “Cheers”

    4. Ophelia, finally a cat with true literary namesake, so famous I don’t even have to identify her.

    • Thanks for sharing, John. I am completely unfamiliar with Paddlefoot and “Clutch Cargo”. I’ve heard of Kookie and 77 Sunset Strip but have never seen that show. I was never a big fan of Cheers, but have seen a couple of episodes and am familiar with Lilith, and of course, I know of Ophelia, from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, one of my favorites. I’m glad you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to share and have finally had that opportunity met.
