The Mighty Ocean: A Poem

The Mighty Ocean
by Kelly F. Barr

I watch the waves crash upon the sand
Just inches from where I stand.
In their wake, they leave debris;
And drag yet other things out to sea.

Memories tumble in my brain,
Like the waves upon the sandy grains,
Of a day when a wave fell upon my head
Dragging and pulling–filling me with dread.

I struggled to find my feet
But the water’s power couldn’t be beat.
Seeking help, my hands groped,
Finding a body–help, I hoped.

Finally I stood upright,
Still shaking from fright.
Your eyes looked at me in shock.
My composure shook and rocked.

Embarrassment sent me to the shore,
To return to the ocean nevermore.
Water filled with so much power
Brings me to awe and makes me cower.

  1. Hi Kelly! Just wanted to let you know that I was recently nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award and in turn was encouraged to nominate others whom I feel worthy. I don’t read many blogs because life over here is really crazy with school and my own writing, but your blog is one that I do read. I really appreciate the diversity of your posts. So, congratulations! You can view your nomination at http://jillprintzenhoff.com/2017/09/19/blogger-recognition-award/. Thanks!

    • Hi Jill,
Wow! Thanks for the recognition and for considering my blog worthy of an award. I really appreciate it and hope you won’t be terribly disappointed that I will not be posting and nominating other bloggers. As you mentioned in your comment, as much as I would love to read other blogs, right now I just don’t have that kind of time. I still highly recommend that those who have time to read other blogs check out the ones on my sidebar. I, sadly, do not have the time to read them regularly, as I am busy homeschooling my youngest child, working on my own writing, posting on this blog three times a week, and have now begun my Professional Freelance Editing business. Therefore, I just don’t have time to participate in something like this, but thank you again, for deeming my blog award-worthy.
