Top Ten Tuesday

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday theme from The Broke and the Bookish is a Movie Freebie. That means I can post anything about movies: top ten all time favorite movies, top ten foreign films, top then rom-coms, top ten tear jerkers, etc.

I have decided to do my Top Ten All Time Favorite Movies.

  1. Image result for willy wonka and the chocolate factory

And, yes, the original with Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, not the Johnny Depp version.

2. Image result for the sound of music

3. Image result for p.s. i love you

4. Image result for moms night out

5. Image result for babycake starring Rikki Lake

6. Image result for star wars                   Image result for star wars        The original trilogy. (The newer three were okay.) & the newest release.

7. Image result for chronicles of narnia

One of the few movies that I think was almost as good as the book.

8. Image result for batman begins starring Christian Bale

I’ve been a Batman fan ever since I was a little girl and watched Batman and Robin starring Adam West on t.v. many years ago. However, in my opinion, the Batman movies starring Christian Bale are the ultimate. For me, Christian Bale is Batman.

9. Image result for White Christmas

Since Christmas is a little more than a month away, I decided to include my two favorite Christmas movies; movies that I have to watch every year at Christmas time.

10. Image result for The Nativity Story

11. Image result for ladyhawke film

Okay, I had to add this one because it is one of my very favorites of all time. It’s a beautiful medieval love story.

Top Ten Tuesday

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday theme as established by The Broke and the Bookish is probably one of the easiest ones I’ve ever done because my TBR list is forever growing. The theme is Ten Books I’ve Added to my TBR List Lately.

  1. The Reading Promise: My Father and the Books We Shared by [Ozma, Alice]
  2. I Capture the Castle by [Smith, Dodie]
  3. The Doomsday Book by [Willis, Connie]
  4. The Goldfinch: A Novel (Pulitzer Prize for Fiction) by [Tartt, Donna]
  5. Faceless by [Sheinmel, Alyssa]
  6. Room: A Novel by [Donoghue, Emma]
  7. Eleanor & Park by [Rowell, Rainbow]
  8. The Red Harlequin Box Set (Books 1-4) by [Ricci, Roberto]

What have you added to your TBR list lately?

Top Ten Tuesday

Today’s theme for Top Ten Tuesday, as suggested by The Broke and the Bookish, is Top Ten Books to Read if your Book Club likes _______. (Fill in the blank to be anything you want: YA books, non-fiction, a particular genre, etc.)

I have chosen Top Ten Books to Read if Your Book Club Likes Suspense/Horror. (None of these are full of blood and gore because I don’t read those types of books, but I do love to be kept on the edge of my seat.)

  1. The Watchers by Dean Koontz
  2. The Hunted by Mike Dellosso
  3. Scream by Mike Dellosso
  4. Nick of Time by Tim Downs
  5. Misery by Stephen King (this one does contain some human torture, but it’s not too                                                     graphic)
  6. Any of the Odd Thomas books by Dean Koontz
  7. On the Street Where You Live by Mary Higgins Clark
  8. Indivisible by Kristen Heitzmann
  9. Last Light (The Restoration Series) by Terri Blackstock
  10. The Negotiator (The O’Malley Series) by Dee Henderson

Top Ten Tuesday

Today’s theme, chosen by The Broke and the Bookish, is a Halloween Freebie, and we’re supposed to create a list of anything Halloween related or scary.

However, I do not celebrate Halloween. Therefore, I have decided to create my own Top Ten list of Books that encourage and inspire me.

  1. The Bible, my preference is the NIV published in 1984 or earlier, and the 1599 Geneva Bible.
  2. My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers.
  3. A Charles Dickens Devotional This book offers an excerpt from a Dickens novel, with a lesson and Bible verse for each day. I enjoy it because I have always enjoyed Dickens’ novels, though I still haven’t read them all.
  4. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis
  5. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. This is a wonderful story of redemption.
  6. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This story is a wonderful example of standing up for what is right, for what you believe, no matter what everyone else thinks.
  7. Long Way Gone by Charles Martin. This is a story about real unconditional love and second chances in an unexpected way.
  8. The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd because it’s a great story of love and acceptance across color/race boundaries.
  9. Grey Matter: A Neurosurgeon Discovers the Power of Prayer by David Levy, M.D. This is a story of testimony of the power of prayer.
  10. Dirty God by Johnnie Moore. This book is about the amazing grace we can freely receive through/from Jesus Christ.

Top Ten Tuesday

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday theme, as per The Broke and the Bookish, is “Ten Characters We’d Name Our Children or Pets After”. Since, I won’t be having any more children, mine would be pets, most likely dogs.

  1. Atticus after Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
  2. Diggory from The Magician’s Nephew by C. S. Lewis
  3. Tumnus from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis; one of my favorite minor characters.
  4. Ky. This character is a very complex character in a book I am currently reading: Unblemished by Sara Ella, and he is fast becoming one of my favorites. His full name is Kyaphus, but most people call him Ky.
  5. Sam after Sam Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy because he is the ultimate faithful friend.
  6. Einstein after the best dog character EVER, Einstein from The Watchers by Dean Koontz.
  7. Cooper from Long Way Gone by Charles Martin.
  8. Rand from The Journey of the Heart Series by Colleen Coble.
  9. Cade from Breaker’s Reef by Terri Blackstock
  10. Jake from Fire and Water by Betsy Graziani Fasbinder

Who’s on your list?

Top Ten Tuesday

I’m sorry this is posted late, but I certainly didn’t want to miss doing another Top Ten Tuesday. I missed last weeks because I was extremely busy and because I couldn’t come up with a list of villains anyway. Books I read don’t have what I would consider major villains, they have subtle bad guys/antagonists.

Anyway, today’s Top Ten Tuesday as suggested by The Broke and the Bookish is Top Ten Books You Read Because of Recommendation. More of my recommendations came from conversations with Bookish friends than from other blogs.

The O’Malley series by Dee Henderson was recommended to me by my good friend, Deanna, who is a Bookish friend, several years ago. It is still one of my most favorite series of books.

2. Death by Darjeeling (Tea Shop Mysteries Book 1) by [Childs, Laura]

The same friend, Deanna, who also is a tea drinker like me, also recommended The Tea Shop Mysteries series by Laura Childs. I haven’t read the entire series yet, but I do enjoy these cozy mysteries. They are light easy reads with fun characters.

3. Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore: A Novel by [Sloan, Robin]

My friend, Mandy, who is also a Bookish person, recommended this book to me last year.

4.

I honestly don’t remember who recommended this book, but it was recommended to me by a homeschool mom who said it’s a fantastic book to use for geography. I think it may have been my friend, Karen. She is a wealth of great recommendations for homeschool books. Our youngest son and I read this a few years ago and loved it. We did use it for geography, but he created a whole notebook about the book that included both art and geography, as well as bits and pieces of the story.

5. Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by [Gilbert, Elizabeth]

This book was recommended by my friend, Lisa, at a writers’ retreat. I still haven’t finished reading it, but I plan to sometime. I often struggle to get through nonfiction books, but my struggle with this one is that it is too New Age for my liking.

6.

This book was recommended to me by our church’s associate pastor because he is also a writer. I also have not finished reading this book because it takes me a while to get through technical books, but I have found a lot of value in what I have read so far. I will finish this one sometime too.

7. The Help by [Stockett, Kathryn]

This book was recommended to me by my friend, Denise. It is now one of my all time favorite books. I love the fact that it is told from the perspective of Black women in the south during the time of race/slave issues.

8. The Restoration Collection: Last Light, Night Light, True Light, Dawn's Light (A Restoration Novel) by [Blackstock, Terri]

I honestly don’t remember if this series was actually recommended to me or if I simply chose to read it because I heard a lot of talk about it at church and was intrigued, so I picked up one book after another at the library. It’s a great series and very realistic.

9. The Secret Life of Bees by [Kidd, Sue Monk]

This book was recommended to me by my sister-in-law who is a teacher. I found it quite interesting and enjoyable. In some ways the story reminded me of The Waltons.

10.

This book was recommended to me by a homeschool friend. I really enjoyed the story and became quite fascinated with what I learned about moths in the story. However, part of the book was quite unrealistic, but I would still read it again and recommend it to others.

Top Ten Tuesday

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday as suggested by The Broke and the Bookish is the Top Ten Books on my Fall TBR List.

I am a history buff and this is a new book by a new author that I want to read.

2.

“The Picture of Dorian Gray” because I’ve been wanting to read this story for years!

3. 16 Lighthouse Road (A Cedar Cove Novel) by [Macomber, Debbie]

I want to read this entire series (12 books), so this could easily stretch into winter, maybe even fill winter since I only get a couple of hours a day to read.

4.

Actually, I began reading this one about two days before Fall officially began and am almost finished with it, so it should really be #1 on this list.

5. This spot I have no photos for because the other books I have on my Fall TBR list are three books that one of my dear writing friends has written and emailed me that she wants me to read and give her feedback on. She sent them to me a few months ago and I haven’t had time to start them, so these are high on my list. They haven’t been published yet, but I have high expectations that they will be, and when they are, I will let you all know so that you can read them. They are all YA stories.

And since #3 is actually 12 books, I have already gone over the limit of 10, so I shall stop here. These will keep me quite busy.

What books are you just burning to read this Fall?

Top Ten Tuesday

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is an Audio Freebie! The Broke and the Bookish suggest Top Ten Audio Books You Should Listen To; Ten Books I Want to Listen to on Audio; 10 Bands You Should Check Out; Ten Podcasts You Should be Listening to; Ten of my All Time Favorite Albums; Ten Songs I Love, or anything else you can come up with.

Since I don’t really listen to audio books, I have decided to do Ten of my All Time Favorite Albums, and before we start I will admit that it was absolutely impossible for me to limit it to just ten because my mom introduced me to music at the age of 2, and I have loved and listened to many different genres ever since, and that’s quite a few years but I won’t say how many. Therefore, expect more cheats on this list than any of my previous lists.   😀

  1. Singles 1969-73 (Import) (CD) ~ The Carpenters (Artist) Cover Art

The Carpenters: The Singles 1969-1973. I LOVE this album. Karen had a fantastic voice and it was heartbreaking that she died so young.

2. On Stage and Elvis' Golden Records

I loved pretty much every song this man sang, and I loved his movies too, but these are two of the albums I listened to most. Elvis was also the first singer that I cried over when he died, and I named our first black Labrador Retriever after him.

3. Thriller and Bad (Remastered)

Many people judged and criticized this man, but I always felt sorry for him. How could anyone expect him to be “normal” (whatever that really is) when he was raised by an abusive father who exploited his children, and he never had the opportunity to have any semblance of a normal childhood. He was incredibly talented both as a singer and as a dancer/performer, and I still miss him and hope his children will have a better life than he did.

4. She's So Unusual by Lauper, Cyndi (2000)Hat Full Of Stars and A Night To Remember

A lot of people think Cyndi is weird or strange, but she, too, is incredibly talented. I have loved her from the start. She’s given me great dance music and wonderfully artistic songs. I also never thought she sounded better than on the albums Hat Full of Stars and A Night to Remember.

5.  Wham Make It Big , Faith and Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1

I fell in love with George Michael when I first saw the MTV video for “Wake Me Up Before You Go-G0”. Yes, he had a very controversial song on the Faith album, but I still loved him and found him extremely good looking. I was heart broken when he announced his choice to be gay, but he was another incredibly talented artist, and many artists seem to like to push the envelope and do something controversial. I don’t necessarily think that’s a good thing, but it’s not going to prevent me from loving a talented artist, just as I have been taught “Hate the Sin, Not the Sinner”. His album Listen Without Prejudice consisted of songs with strong and good messages. I even got to see him in concert when he did his “Faith” tour. That remains one of my favorite concert experiences.

6. Who's That Girl Soundtrack and Immaculate Collection

Talk about controversial! Madonna is the epitome of controversial. I loved her when she first came out even though some of her songs, even then, pushed the envelope. I totally loved “Who’s That Girl” the album and the movie, and I almost all of my favorites are on The Immaculate Collection. However, I did lose respect for Madonna and stopped listening to her when she became too “over exposed” (if you get my drift) and erotic. That is just completely unacceptable and inappropriate as far as I’m concerned, and I believe it shows a lack of self respect. However, Madonna has talent. It’s just too bad she feels she always has to try to top herself and chooses to do so in inappropriate ways.

7. Product Details

Yes, yet one more controversial artist. I have been a fan of Cher since I first saw her with Sonny Bono on Laugh-In, then I watched the Sonny and Cher show, and I always thought she had a great voice, but I totally became a fan when she made her musical comeback in 1987. I also enjoyed many of the movies she starred in over the years. However, I would never go to see her in concert because her choice of wearing too little clothes is just wrong. My two favorite Cher songs are “Bang-Bang (her single remake), and “Just Like Jesse James”.

8. Pat Benatar Crimes Of Passion and Pat Benatar - Precious Time | ~Music is the ART of making~ noise | Pi ...

I loved Pat Benatar’s heavy rock’n’roll. She sang songs about strong women, and I loved to listen to her music whenever I was angry. It gave me an outlet for my anger, in that listening to those tough songs with great beats always calmed me down.

9. heart album cover heart backstage pass heart german promo 1985 and Heart Brigade Album Cover, Heart Brigade CD Cover, Heart Brigade Cover ...

Been a fan of Heart since I was in junior high school!

10. Insert Brand Name Here: Fleetwood Mac - Rumours review

LOVE this album!

Okay, I know I’m supposed to be done and I’ve already cheated, but I have just a couple of more I want to share:

11. Michael Bolton Greatest Hits: 1985-1995 album cover

This man can sing a love song to me any time! He has a fantastic and distinctive voice! I don’t think I’ve ever heard him sing a song I didn’t enjoy. I also had the privilege of seeing him in concert once, right after he first cut his long curly locks! I didn’t know until I saw him that he had gotten his hair cut. At the time, I was very disappointed as I loved that mane. However, it didn’t take me long to get used to his short do, and he’s still handsome.

12. All the Way... A Decade of Song - Céline Dion - Disc-O-Graphy

I have followed this woman’s life ever since she was first noticed as a young girl with a beautiful voice when she sang the song for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. At first I was appalled that she married Rene, who was soo old compared to her. But as I watched them over the years, it became evident that they truly loved each other and were meant for each other. I empathized with her as they struggled to have children, and all that she went through so that they could have their three beautiful boys. I cried with her when she lost Rene to throat cancer early this year. She has an incredibly beautiful voice.

13. Air Supply Greatest Hits album cover

These guys did a wonderful job with love songs as well. I also had the opportunity of seeing them in concert once — we sat in the third row from the front!

14. Palace of Rock: tobyMac - Eye on it and This Is Not A Test 2015 Momentum 0 Portable Sounds 0

This is my current favorite male singer and these are my two favorite albums. I love to blast This is Not a Test as I’m driving. We had the privilege of taking our entire family to Toby’s Eye On It Tour concert, and we totally loved it!

15. Blanca Announces Self- Titled Solo Debut Blanca Releasing May 4

This is my new favorite female singer and this album is awesome!

16. Shelleen | Rough Tracks

This is my favorite up and coming female singer, I suggest you watch for. This is a great album! I know Shelleen personally, not well, but a bit, and she has wonderful talent. She writes her own lyrics too. If you haven’t heard this album, I suggest you listen to it soon.

Okay, I’ll stop now, because I could go on for a long time yet. There are so many talented artists in so many different genres that I love, but you get the picture.

Who are some of your favorite music artists?

Top Ten Tuesday

toptentuesday

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday theme is “Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Books of X Genre” and I have decided to do the Romance genre. Now, this list includes books that aren’t “strictly” romance, but they all have romance in them. You can join Top Ten Tuesday too, just go to The Broke and the Bookish for all of the details.

My Top Ten Romance Books of All Time

Years ago, I read a lot of Harlequin Romance stories until I got tired of the predictability of them when I realized their plots were all basically the same. However, this book remains one very favorite Harlequin Romance book, and though I can’t really tell you much about it anymore, I do know that something about it made it stand out from all the rest to me. I hope to get a copy and re-read it soon.

2.

If you’ve been following my TTT lists for long, you know that this book has popped up frequently. I LOVE this book!

3. Her Christmas Hero (Home to Dover Series Book 6) by [Beatty, Lorraine]

Apparently, this is Book 6 in a series called “Home to Dover”. I did not know that when I read it, and I have not read any of the other books in the series, as I have not read a lot of Love Inspired books, but earlier this year, I read three Love Inspired Romance stories and this one was fantastic! Lorraine Beatty did an excellent job creating characters that I cared about and routed for and came to love. I would love to read more about the characters in this story.

4. Love Unexpected (Beacons of Hope Book #1) by [Hedlund, Jody]

This is another book that has shown up on some of my other TTT lists. Again, I just love this book!

5. Kissed by a Cowboy (A Four of Hearts Ranch Romance) by [Clopton, Debra]

Again, this book is part of a series called the “Four of Hearts Ranch Romances”, and I have not read any of the other books in the series, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it has also appeared on previous TTT lists of mine.

6. The Promise: A Novel by [Steel, Danielle]

I used to collect and read all of Danielle Steel’s novels, but over the years, I fell behind on my collection and on reading them. However, The Promise remains one of my all time favorites.

7. Safe Harbour by [Steel, Danielle]

I really enjoyed this Danielle Steel novel as well.

8. Love Comes Softly (Love Comes Softly Book #1) by [Oke, Janette]

This is the first book in a fantastic series by Janette Oke. I have also shared this series in other TTT lists.

9. Message in a Bottle by [Sparks, Nicholas],  A Walk to Remember by [Sparks, Nicholas] and

Okay, okay, I know I’m cheating, but it’s so hard to just pick 10. These three books by Nicholas Sparks are wonderful, and in my opinion like in most books that have had movies based on them, I believe all of these books are better than the movies, especially A Walk to Remember. I believe that the movies of Message in a Bottle and The Notebook held to the books’ story lines fairly well, but there were things that I felt were important in A Walk to Remember that the movie changed, left out, or compromised.

10.

Yes, my last pick is also another cheat, but this series is so phenomenal, that there is no way to choose just one of these books as the favorite of the series. Dee Henderson did such a great job of creating incredibly realistic, believable characters that I came to love and feel that I really knew in these books that I was heartbroken to come to the end of the series. I would still love to see Dee Henderson write more about this wonderful characters. I look forward to re-reading this series in the not-too-distant future.

What genre did you choose for your TTT this week?

Top Ten Tuesday

toptentuesday

Thanks for the banner, The Broke and the Bookish! Today’s Top Ten Tuesday theme, as suggested by The Broke and the Bookish, is a TV themed topic, and I have decided to do my Top Ten TV Shows of all Time. You will note that all of them are fairly old because we have not had TV in our home for many years already. We have a TV but only for use with a DVD and VHS player.

  1. Promised Land — Great family show about a family who traveled the country. It starred Gerald McRaney.
  2. The Waltons
  3. Little House on the Prairie
  4. Party of Five — this series didn’t last as long as I would have liked, but it was where Neve Campbell got her start.
  5. Murder, She Wrote — loved Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher, and loved Cabot Cove, Maine
  6. Law & Order — the original and the original SVU
  7. Lie to Me — I always found this show fascinating
  8. Life — This show was taken off way too soon, without closure!
  9. Young Riders — about the Pony Express, starring Josh Brolin and Stephen Baldwin
  10. Reasonable Doubts

There are many more I could list, but these probably would still top the list. As you can see, my favorite shows were about family, the law or mysteries, or something unique like the Young Riders. Many of these series, I felt, ended all too soon.

How about you? What TV theme did you share today? What are your favorite TV shows of all time?
